Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines have been available since the early 1990s. A complete course of the vaccine normally consists of three doses, which are administered in infancy, starting at around the age of six weeks. In some countries, a booster dose is also offered between 12 and 18 months of age.
These maps show the percentage coverage of the third dose of Hib vaccine worldwide from 1998 to 2007 in children <1year of age. Data were obtained from World Health Organization. The following class intervals are defined: 1%- 49%= Low; 50%- 85%= moderate; 86%- 99%= high. Globally the overall coverage has increased gradually year by year, the pattern of which depends largely on the incorporation of the Hib vaccine childhood immunisation programme.
