From projection, it is estimated that the population in Hong Kong would increase from 7 million in 2009 to 7.66 million by 2019. This set of maps shows the yearly distribution of the projected population by Tertiary Planning Unit (TPU) from 2014 to 2020. TPU is a geographic unit used by the Government for planning purpose. There are a total of 289 TPU in the territory of Hong Kong. The main population increases would take place in TPU in the New Territories, especially in Sha Tin and Tung Chung new towns and their neighbouring areas. Data for the maps were taken from the government report “Projections of population distribution 2015-2024” released by the Planning Department in December 2015.
