Healthy babies from breastfeeding 嬰兒健康由母乳開始
Since 1992, the first week of August (1-7 Aug) has been proclaimed World Breastfeeding Week by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA). World Breastfeeding Week 2010 calls for the implementation of "Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding" (Details at the official website http://worldbreastfeedingweek.org) by health facilities for improving breastfeeding rates.
Zooming in Asia, the map shows the percentage of children receiving exclusive breastfeeding as their source of food in the first six months of birth. Depicted by graduated colours, eastern Asian countries, like Mongolia, China and North Korea, are achieving higher rate of exclusive breastfeeding as compared with the countries in western Asia. Possible factors contributing to the difference among countries include social and cultural perception of breastfeeding, level of support for mothers from doctors and their husband, knowledge of breastfeeding and the status of women. Data were obtained from an UNICEF report published in 2009 and World Health Organisation.
